You already know how much we LOVE animals. Our other love is the seniors in our community. We love the stories, the wisdom and the spunky personality so much that we have decided to combine the two into a Senior Buddy Program.
Our Co-Owner, Sue, and our mascot, Mystic, are a therapy team that has experience with elderly individuals in hospice as well as those with other debilitating conditions. As a team, we work together to bring joy and light to the day of people who are fighting every day and welcome the chance to get their mind off of what they are facing. We do our best to give them the inspiration to keep moving forward and win their battles.
People love and are excited about what we do. Many of us have stories about a beloved parent, grandparent or another relative who is facing the toughest part of their lives. They are from a generation that has taken care of us, loved us, fought for us and most importantly taught us everything they know so we can live a better life. It is time that we take care of them for all the times they cared for us. It can be tough because they always cared for others and they don’t want to be a burden. They want their independence. They are frustrated that they can’t always do things themselves. You may have heard them tell you that they do not need a babysitter when you try to care for them. We understand and we are dealing with things like this as well.
This is why this program is here. We have combined our beloved seniors and our beloved dogs to offer you a solution to when you can’t always be there or you need an outside person to check on your loved one in a way that they can accept and look forward to.
There are three options to this program:
Dog Assisted Visit – These visits are 1 hour in duration and provide comfort, a listening ear and a soft paw to your loved one in their home. It’s hard to have a pet as a senior unless you know who can take the dog in the event you do not outlive the dog and are capable of caring for a pet. If you have someone who has loved dogs all their lives, this is a really good option for them to visit with a pup and bring a smile to their face. We have seen the way that they light up when they see Mystic and that brings just as much joy to us as it does to them.
Companion Visit – These visits are for those that need someone to check on their loved one but do not want a dog as part of the visit because of fear, allergies, etc. We are happy to come in for an hour visit and check on your loved one and listen to them.
Dog Walk and Visit – If your loved one has a dog already and needs them walked because they can’t exercise them like they used to, we have you covered. We will come in for a 30 minute dog walk and a 30 minute visit where we provide a listening ear.
We offer these in the traditional one hour increments in the Watertown/Oakville area. However, we know that sometimes you need a little less or a little extra help on some days. We can customize a shorter or extended visit for you upon request. Pricing will vary depending on the length of time needed. Prices are subject to change for travel to locations outside of Watertown/Oakville.
